A little more about HIAS and Refugee Shabbat: HIAS is a global Jewish nonprofit that protects refugees, and helps them to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity. National Refugee Shabbat, in its 3rd year cosponsored by over 25 Jewish organizations including the Academy for Jewish Religion, the Anti-Defamation League, and T'ruah, is being commemorated by synagogues across the country to increase awareness of the plight of refugees, to recognize the work that has been done, and to reaffirm a collective commitment to welcoming refugees and asylum seekers.
